This is the view. The one people imagine when they close their eyes and think about Lake Tahoe — impossibly blue water stretching to the Sierra, the light changing by the minute as the sun drops behind the mountains. The Idle Hour sits directly above it on a panoramic deck, and on a clear evening there is no better sunset anywhere in the region. Possibly anywhere.

The fondue is the move — warm, communal, exactly right for a place that calls itself a wine bar and means it. The Wine Spectator Award of Excellence tells you the list is serious; the warm, living-room atmosphere tells you nobody is going to make you feel bad about ordering a second glass. An idle hour here could easily become idle hours, plural.
